Ammonites
Ammonites are perhaps the most widely known fossils and because of this prevalence are the most common fossils found for sale. These creatures lived in the seas between 240 - 65 million years ago, when they fell into extinction with the dinosaurs. The name 'ammonite' (usually lower-case) originates from the Greek Ram-horned god Ammon.
We have an eclectic selection of rare ammonites for sale in our Pimlico Road Gallery. Ammonites can be very exciting decorative pieces to complete any interior design project and we here at Dale Rogers Ammonite have used our expertise in conjunction with leading interior designers across the UK to provide the perfect solution to compliment any scheme. We are especially adept at working within colouration schemes and complimentary mineral composition.
Crinoids
Because many crinoids resemble flowers, with their cluster of waving arms atop a long stem, they are sometimes called sea lilies. But crinoids are not plants. Like their relatives starfish & the sea urchin, crinoids are echinoderms; animals with rough, spiny surfaces & a special kind of radial symmetry based on pentagonal expansion. An ancient group of echinoderms that flourished in the Devonian period, however due to their delicate status most examples we secure for sale are from the later Jurassic epoch because, although still rare, it is possible to source these spectacular specimens as full pieces. One of natures elder statesmen, some Crinoid species are known to survive to the current day. In British folklore disarticulated fossil crinoid stems are known as fairy money and are significant in pagan theology as having association with the sun. Their flower-like structure is natural art of the highest order akin to crepuscule examples of impressionists Van Gogh’s Sunflowers or Monet’s Water Lilies series. Crinoids are both beautiful and interesting fossils, much sought after by designers and architects alike and we here at Dale Rogers Ammonite aim to source the most outlandish and striking specimens available for sale to emphasise your apartments natural majesty and complete an interiors design.
Fossil Wood
Petrified wood are fossils of wood that have turned to stone through the process of permineralization. All organic materials are replaced with minerals while maintaining the original structure of the wood. That may sound a bit scientific but as you will see the results can be stunning. We have a good selection of fossil wood logs that have been cut & polished to make stools & side tables & giant slices of fossilised tree trunk that can be used for table tops or wall pieces.
Fossil Fish
Fish are the most abundant of all living vertebrates & make up more than half of the approximately 48,500 described species with us today. Despite their proliferation, fish are relatively rare as fossils. The fragile nature of a fish makes it a poor candidate for fossilization, nevertheless there are some unique environments & circumstances that exist where some deposits produce the most impressive & perfectly preserved fossils known to science.
Fossil Fish Murals are some of the more extravagantly artistic forms of fossilisation. We have an unbelievable assemblage of these natural artworks for sale that stand up to comparison with more contemporary art forms. Drop into our store on the Pimlico Road in London for a closer look to gauge the majesty and size of these great survivors.
Palm Fronds
Arguably the most aesthetically appealing finds from the Green River Formation are its amazing fossil palm fronds. Considered rare in this geologic formation due to the low probability of preservation of the delicate organic material, these wonderful fossil plants evoke the subtropical climate of North America during the Eocene period. Fossil palms from the ancient sediments of Fossil Lake are unusually well preserved leading scientists to believe that the lake system must have had great depth meaning the anoxic conditions weren’t livable so that when plants died and drifted to the bottom no scavengers could feast on the remains.
Highly coveted as accents for interior design, we have for sale fossil palm fronds in warm sandstone that bring a radiant warmth into any room or in silica-based oil shale settings which compliment popular minimalist chrome interiors. The individual leaves of these palms arouse comparisons with the Japanese image of the rising sun.
Pectens
Pectens are a family of bivalve, or molluscs including the scallop and closely related to the clam and oyster. These beautifully preserved Prehistoric Scallops has been artistically and expertly prepared revealing them from the surrounding Bedrock allowing this impressive and desirable display. These highly decorative fossils come in big blocks, smaller freeform shapes and even individual shell form.
Trilobites
Trilobites were among the early arthropods, a phylum of hard-shelled creatures with multiple body segments and jointed legs. Amazingly there are over 20,000 described species of Trilobite. New species of trilobites are unearthed and described every year. This makes trilobites the single most diverse class of extinct organisms, and within the generalized body plan of trilobites there was a great deal of diversity of size and form making them very popular with fossil collectors.
